The Writing Road To Reading

I've had some experience with helping my 3 kids (now 11 years, 10year & 6 years) with handwriting.

First of all, I'm guilty of not realizing that writing is a highly complex task involving so much brain connections fine motor skills which different kids develop at different ages due to their unique developmental age. I now realize from brain science that signs of poor handwriting may be symptomatic of other Brain-related issues eg kids' Visual disabilities/ development delay. But for many children, good handwriting must be taught - it's a skill that needs methodical teaching & learning.

Timmy Time Theme Song

See video

I must really thanks my friend in Florida who always send good DVDs to DS. This show Timmy Time first started in UK and my friend sent over one copied for DS 2 years back (after sending over Shaun the Sheep). If you realised Timmy is actually the little sheep in the show Shaun the Sheep. It is about Timmy's school days.

This show also helped to prepare DS for school. After watching it he kept looking forward to going to school. Maybe that is why we never have any problem with him crying in school.

This show is now showing in Disney Junior :)

Shaun the Sheep - Life's a Treat

See video

My friend in Florida sent 2 DVDs to DS, title Shaun the Sheep 2 years back. The theme song really caught us laughing. Although there is not much talking in the video, the clever actions and smart moves done by Shaun and the whole flock really will make us laugh. Especially the farmer did not know anything at all. I saw it available in the library or watch it in youtube

Enjoy the cheerful song :)

What Parents Need To Know About Selecting The Right Enrichment Program?

Every year, parents are faced with the same question: how to make the holidays both fun and constructive for their kids. More families are turning to holiday enrichment programs as a way of adding value to the holiday camp experience.

But not all holiday enrichment camps are created equal. Here are some points to consider when evaluating programs for your son or daughter for this holiday.

Does the area of enrichment have any practical application to your child’s academic future?

Several camps position themselves as “enrichment programs” when, in reality, they are glorified and expensive vacations for the students who attend. Do the kids like these camps? You bet. But before signing up, take a good look at the program’s schedule of activities. Close inspection may reveal that there’s far more downtime and unstructured free time than there is quality enrichment.

The Giving Tree

Video:

"Shel Silverstein's the Giving Tree is a very short story carrying weighty message. As an adult reader, I love it very much. ....DS asked me a lot of questions and we had an very interesting discussion about life and relationships. this simple story will stimulate your emotion and discussion....It is about the relationship between a tree and a boy. the tree loves the boy so much that it is willing to let the boy cut down its trunk and make a boat to sail away...
there is a controversy on whether the tree's unconditional love can make the boy happy....
personally feel the simple story depict complexity of life and relationships...." HyperKiasu
